To Welcome, To Learn, To Teach, To Grow, To Fellowship

About Fellowship Quilters Guild

In 2016, several interested members of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple expressed an interest in learning to quilt. Michelle Herman and Vivian Walker talked about the possibility of having a quilting class during the summer for all interested members.

The two women decided the class would be held at the Six House on Tuesday night, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM for six weeks. The class would begin in June, and end in July. Once all these specifics were set and presented to Rev. Barber for his approval, the class was advertised both to the congregation and to the general public.

The following participants showed up for that first class, and quilting at SMZBT had begun:

Carol Baskin, Doug Baskin, Dr. Cheryl Cauthen, Michelle Herman, April Jarrett, Petrine Greer, Suzanne McRae, Susan Nichols, Patricia Seraphin, and Tiffany Vessels.

At the end of this class, several brand new, beautiful quilts had been created, and some new quilters were totally engulfed by the craft

Mission Statement

The mission of the Fellowship Quilters is to serve God by using the creative gifts He has given to each of us to preserve and continue the tradition of quilting.

The guild will promote fellowship among its members and the larger community, promote knowledge and appreciation of quilting and quilts and of other crafts.
